Architectural Accessibility
The Main Library is located in the Main Building of Wrocław University of Science and Technology (staircase "c", 2nd floor).
Basic Information
Main Building of Wrocław University of Science and Technology – building A-1
27 Stanisława Wyspiańskiego Embankment,
50-370 Wrocław
Area surrounding the building
There are no urban barriers around the building. It is accessible via paved paths, and pedestrian crossings have lowered curbs. Directly in front of the building, there are four parking spaces for persons with disabilities: two on Stanisława Wyspiańskiego Embankment and two on C.K. Norwida Street.
Building entrance
The main entrance to the building has stairs and is not adapted for wheelchair users (there is no ramp). The accessible entrance for these users is located at the back of the building (via the gate from C.K. Norwida Street) leading to the inner courtyard. This entrance is at ground level and takes users to level -1. The door opens automatically. Directly at this entrance, there is an elevator providing access to the ground floor and other floors.
The building can also be entered via an entrance on C.K. Norwida Street. However, this entrance is not adapted for persons with mobility impairments.
All entrances to the building are equipped with YourWay system speakers (a solution designed for persons with visual impairments).
The building
The building has four levels (three above ground and one underground) and a layout resembling a square. There is a staircase in each corner. The main floors are accessible for persons with disabilities (excluding mezzanines), via an elevator located in the east wing (to the right of the main entrance). The elevator is adapted for persons with disabilities. Access is limited to rooms located in the corridor on the second floor in the west wing (including lecture halls 329 and 301, and exercise room 328). Persons with lower limb disabilities can only reach this part of the building via the Main Reading Room (room 307). It is necessary to inform the Library in advance about the need to pass through the reading room to reach the corridor in the west wing.
Rooms located on the mezzanines, i.e., room 171 (conference room) and room 174 (facility administrator’s room), are not accessible for wheelchair users.
The building uses the YourWay tagging system. The tags are located next to the elevator on levels -1, 0, and 2, by one of the staircases, in the cloakroom on level -1, as well as at the entrance to the auditorium, room 322, and the Main Library.
Accessible toilets for persons with disabilities are located on level -1 (near the elevator) and on the second floor in the restricted access corridor (by the Edward Sucharda Lecture Hall – room 329).
Additional information
Assistance dogs and guide dogs are allowed to enter the building and all its rooms.
There are no induction loops in the building.
